Jean Nipon is an enigma to say the least. The mystery that surrounds him is hardly surprising, however, considering his origins are so uncertain. There are many theories as to where he came from but the most commonly held belief is that he emerged from amongst the bracken in Western France clutching nothing but a Pink Floyd record.
Leaving his shadowy origins behind, what we do know about Jean Nipon is that he is has done everything from designing a coke bottle to touring as a drummer in a hardcore band. It was not until ’97 however, that the enigmatic gentleman tried his hand at djing in order to spread his passion for Rap, D’n’B and Jungle. He also believed it was an easy way to score chicks.
It was quickly realised that his efforts behind the decks were more than a cheap ploy however and his 7-hour sets mixing Prince, KRS-one and Aphex Twin alongside his own-custom edits of the latest bangers became renowned in Paris.
Subsequently he hooked up with the like-minded Cute Groundhog to create Teamtendo. Using nothing but Gameboys to create 8-bit-gabber-electro, they were picked up by the now legendary Institubes imprint to be the label’s second release. While working in the legendary records shop Katapult, Nipon then morphed into IYM (important youth movement) with Dj Wet, a terrifying techno outfit whose performances involved a combination of Jason masks and machetes (they release some horrible thing on Kap Bambino's own label).
In 2004 Jean Nipon assumed the alias that he continues to go under today. Having released on karat, Midnight Munchies, and Silverback records and remixes on citizen or Discobelle, the enigmatic man is due to release his deput EP for ClekClekBoom on the 15th of December. this 3 tracks ep full of bass and shaking post house vibes will be both unique and deadly, you can count on this man for that.

Paris is back and it’s no longer pumping to the filtered sound of disco house. Instead, a ‘90s generation have come of age born into the shadow of Mathieu Kassovitz’s classic film, La Haine. A world of internal tensions cracking the ground for new shoots to appear from a vibrant street culture that’s en Seine in the membrane, raised as much on global bass and hiphop’s freakiest mutations as the distant orbit of Chicago and Detroit. You can hear it in the music of ClekClekBoom, the Paris-based label which began in 2007 as a website releasing baile funk from Rio’s favelas but now serves up its own home-grown ghetto grooves.

To bring you the 8th release, CLEKCLEKBOOM searched far and wide for the elusive Jean Nipon. Their journey took them to the shadowy depths of mystic swamps from where this modern-day druid had to be carefully coaxed into the studio. But trust-us, it was well worth the effort! On his first release for CLEKCLEKBOOM, the Institubes original showcases 3 tracks of hard-hitting, deftly-produced, dance-floor menace. “Put It In The Trunk” combines cascading percussion, disturbingly nonchalant vocal snippets and deep, propulsive, subs. With “Black Things On Desk” Jean Nipon employs unnervingly detuned vocal samples woven into irresistibly pulsating, punchy percussion. The final tune, “35 Thieves” sees our enigmatic wizzard drop subtle snatches of melody in amongst a grooving beat which, as ever, strikes the perfect balance between toughness and delicacy.CCB008 is certain to tear apart dance-floors everywhere with its heavy-hitting, baleful beats. But like any unknown quantity, handle with caution.
